COURSE BREAKDOWN
One of the greatest challenges when creating incredible Houdini FX is simply knowing how to approach the project in a procedural way. It takes FXTDs years to learn the secrets to approaching complex FX projects, but in this course, you’ll fast-track your knowledge of Houdini workflows by learning from an industry insider.
In this pro-level course, you’ll learn from Hernan Llano as he guides you through the process of planning, developing, and creating film-quality FX projects.
The course will start by explaining how to tackle VFX problems and think algorithmically. In the first scene, we’ll explore advanced concepts like Matrix Extraction, HDA Development, and the RBD Framework. Hernan take an in-depth look at Ground Fracturing along with complex tree development for CG scenes.
Later in the course, we’ll prep and analyze even more scenes, giving you the ability to practice the techniques for yourself and build a killer demo reel. This is your chance to learn from a VES award-winning artist.
WEEK 1 – OVERVIEW
We will have a look at the shots we will be developing and will break down some of the techniques that we will be using.
WEEK 2 – RBD
We will start the process of creating a first-pass RBD framework, the set of tools that we will be creating is meant to be improved by you on your own time.
WEEK 3 – CONTROLLING RBD
RBDs need to be controlled, and one of the tools we have at our disposal is constraints, this week we will start setting up some tools that will allow us to create just that.
WEEK 4 – GROUND INTERACTION
This week will be all about ground interaction.
WEEK 5 – CONSTRAINTS
We will continue with the ground interaction right where we left, but this time we will add more features to our constraints toolset.
WEEK 6 – TREES
This week I will give a brief introduction to different approaches you can use to simulate trees.
WEEK 7 – WEDGES
This week we will be talking about wedges and will add an additional simple tool that will help you separate geometry into different wedges.
WEEK 8 – BUILDINGS
This week we will start working on the different buildings that were provided to us by the modeling department.
WEEK 9 – TREES PART 2
This week we will start working on the trees. The techniques we will be using this time are different from our previous project.
WEEK 10 – VARIOUS TOPICS
This final week will be mostly a week to give tips and tricks about various topics.
