In this master class, designer Ara Kermanikyan will share his method of working with photogrammetry, show step by step the process of using scan data in CG applications to create a production-ready character that can be used in films, television, virtual reality reality or visual effects. The masterclass focuses on effective techniques, starting with loading and processing photogrammetric images into Reality Capture to generate and export a 3D model and textures. The 3D character scan is then imported into Zbrush, Maya and Wrap3 for efficient processing, simplification, cleanup, texturing and retopology.
Lectures cover the effective use of advanced modeling and retopology features in Zbrush, such as ZModeler, Dynamesh, Zremesher and geometry projection. Topology requirements and methodology are reviewed using the Quad Draw and Modeling toolkit in Maya to manually render animation-ready topology on top of the scanned data. Finally, Wrap3 is used to automatically wrap an animation-ready topology onto the scanned 3D character.
