Welcome to the course “Texturing equipment in Substance Painter: From pure to hardened”
In this workshop, James Schauf will take you through 2 different projects, each of which “tells its own story “
The first is the “Night Flame”: a clean, well-built hot rod with only barely noticeable imperfections. In this project, James will show the process of creating basic/key materials and share his approach to adding the necessary minimum of details/flaws to ensure realistic believability. Once you’ve finished working in substance painter, the texture maps will be exported for rendering in Keyshot. In preparation for rendering, James will discuss material modifications, camera settings, reference background planes, and some tricks/techniques, among other things.
The second project is “The Seasoned Scorpio”: a seasoned, “Mad Max”-inspired, rusting and dusty rat race.
This project will break down smart materials so that students understand the importance of sequential ordering of parts. Upon completion of development, the car will be rendered using the Iray engine built into Substance Painter, and along the way, James will show his work on the final render.
Among the topics and materials covered will be the following: reference images, UV, Luk Dev, leather, painted metal, chrome, rust, rubber, texture sets, masks and working with them, decals, HDR (high dynamic range images), detailing.
For users who can’t wait to start their project, more than 40 smart materials distributed across 2 projects + a few additional ones will be useful. On the one hand, you will observe the construction process, and, on the other hand, you will be able to disassemble each smart material, modify it and create your own versions.
